Breathless

After the tragic death of George Floyd I began working on Breathless, a personal project that I quickly put together to voice my own opinion on the issues of systemic racism against people of color and police brutality. The ideas expressed in this short comic are founded in the painful cries I have heard from the black community over many years, which have broken my heart time and time again. Even though I, a white man, will never experience nor truly understand the terrible prejudice and injustices that define the everyday lives of people of color, I feel inclined to lend my voice to those crying to reform the police force and end the disease of racism. Silence and complacency are the reasons why racism continues to run rampant in our society, and though a simple little comic will do little to change it, I only hope it helps extend the voice of people of color a little further. And now, after Derek Chauvin has been found guilty on all charges, I pray that these first steps of accountability pave the way for a police force that serves and protects equally and indiscriminately.

To all of my brothers and sisters of color...I see you, I hear you, and I love you.
